Robert B. Cialdini Guru of Influence says that humans are influenced by the people of authority and if we are undecided we copy the people around us. Such is the power of influence.
The above scientific facts reflects that our mind is very malleable because we do what others expect us to do. Our thinking and our attitude copies our surroundings. In an experiment done in 1979; 75 years old people were taken to a resort that was fashioned in style of 1959 and the old people were asked to bring in nothing but 1959 clothes, books, magazine, photographs and also dress, talk and behave as if in 1959. The resort was fitted with everything conceivable of 1959. 75 years old people were also asked to bring pictures of 1959 along.
Prior to the experiment their health check was performed and after 3 weeks in the experiment they were again given a health check. Surprisingly they were found to be more alert, stronger, healthier, flexible and alert. It is proven that our thinking and surroundings does impact our health and well being. Currently many such experiments are in progress to reverse the aging process. The simple message is our body responds to the suggestions from our surroundings.
Mind also rules the body. In another experiment Japanese researchers created two groups of 13 students each and they were blindfolded. Group A were given an arm rub of harmless shrub but told that rub is a from a poisonous ivy. Surprisingly all of them developed rashes and boils reflective of poisonous ivy effect. The second group was allergic to poisonous ivy however their permission had been taken prior to the experiment. During the experiment their arm was actually rubbed with poisonous ivy but informed that it was a harmless shrub. Surprisingly only 3% of the candidates developed rashes and boils on the body. How is it possible? Simple……… mind rules over the body.
The message is loud and clear
- We are influenced by our surrounding
- Mind rules the body
- Mind does not differentiate between actual and visualized experience.
And if you have finished reading the post, you have absorbed valuable lessons. Change your surroundings to change your life and if you cannot change your surrounding; visualize the best to achieve the best.
